About Francis/King Regional Park

Francis/King Regional Park is located in Santa Clara County, California, east of San Jose, encompassing a mix of rolling hills, oak woodlands, grassy meadows, and man-made lakes. Covering approximately 450 acres, this park provides a natural escape within the urban landscape of Silicon Valley. The park is divided into two distinct areas: the King Area, known for its fishing lakes and family-friendly picnic facilities, and the Francis Area, which features miles of hiking and equestrian trails that wind through diverse habitats. Visitors can experience riparian zones, grasslands, and native oak groves that support local wildlife like hawks, deer, and various songbirds. The park was established in the 1960s through land donations and has since been managed by the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department. It appeals to outdoor enthusiasts of all ages offering recreational activities such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and birdwatching. Two trout-stocked lakes (King’s Lake and Francis Lake) provide excellent angling opportunities, while expansive picnic areas and playgrounds attract families. The elk statue near the parking area is a local landmark symbolizing the region’s commitment to preserving open space. Because of its proximity to urban centers, Francis/King Regional Park is a favored hub for weekend outings and nature education programs.
